Walden Gallery

I have sketched, painted, and photographed at Walden Pond since 1989. The series of paintings here was done using Japanese ink purchased at a yard sale in Maine. The paper is Japanese (8" x 12"), from a store in Newton Center, MA. A standard opener among my friends in Boston, when we Californians land to visit, is "What do you want to do on your visit? We know Tanya wants to go to Walden Pond!"

In 2000, I developed a slide show interspersing images of my watercolors and acrylics of Walden Pond with shots of a walk around the pond's perimeter, plus a detour to Thoreau's cabin site. Many people on the West Coast, even among those who know Thoreau's writing more pervasively than I do, have no idea what Walden Pond looks like. I structured my presentation to help audiences see the pond area on an informal daily stroll.

I have shown this slide show at a monthly botanical group meeting in San Francisco, for the Speech Arts Association of Northern California, and privately.

I am a lifetime member of the Thoreau Society.
